ABSTRACT

Tourism has a broad multiplier effect and its ability to stimulate the economy is one of its most important global outcomes. This is an effect of tourist expenditure during a travel which, when converted into revenue is used to pay salaries and wages implies return of capital and tax payments. Communities and countries depend on the economic benefits of the sector, what increases vulnerability of destinations to extremes and susceptible of interfering in the dynamics of activity. In 2020, the Covid-19 pandemic called for social isolation measures as a way of avoiding contagion, triggering an worldwide economic crisis unprecedented in the area of tourism. Several countries' hospitality and tourism operations have been canceled, cross-border and, in some cases, domestic travel have been virtually ceased. It is in this crisis scenario where the debate in this article takes place, into an analysis of the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic on the tourism sector of the city of Curitibathrough comparative analysis between 2019 and 2020. The research has a qualitative and quantitative nature as it quantifies data for comparison purposes and, in addition, a qualitative analysis is made to support the results concerning the impact of the pandemic on the tourism sector in Curitiba. As a result, the need of extending the timeframe for analysis to check whether the pace of economic recovery in Curitiba will keep up with the national and international scene is evident. It is considered important to conduct comparative research with municipalities which have a similar tourist profile.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic made big cracks in the tourism industry, being responsible for the almost imminent decrease in tourism activities around the world simultaneously, reducing international visits by 75%, causing a loss of world GDP of 2.4 trillion dollars. The tourism industry has always been supported by technology, being the information systems and different mobile applications, its main allies in the promotion and dissemination of information and tourism activities worldwide. The following article seeks to highlight the importance of information systems as a strategy for the recovery of tourism after the COVID-19 pandemic. © 2022 IEEE Computer Society. ABSTRACT

A bibliometric study is a method used to evaluate the productivity of scientific results in quantitative terms. Bibliometricians apply mathematical and statistical methods to quantify scholarly communications. Using the Bibliometrix program, a database compiled from SCOPUS and Web of science was studied to study the different scientific and literary behaviours of rural tourism development, tourism sustainability, and outdoor activities. In the main database steps, 161 articles were analysed, of which 61 were SCOPUS articles, and 100 were Web of Science articles. As per this database, the relationship between rural tourism with sustainable tourism and outdoor activities, through a bibliometric analysis, looks to study the annual scientific production, the research impact, the authors, and articles most relevant to the themes of research trends over the years. Several interesting and important conclusions were obtained from these results for developing the themes. The results of this study indicate that sustainable tourism and rural tourism have extreme relevance to the studies carried out. Hence, rural tourism and outdoor activities are increasingly sustaining a relationship of partnership, much due to the influences of COVID-19. © 2022 IEEE Computer Society. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

Domestic tourism has suddenly become the preferable choice as countries around the world re-open their tourism. The disruption in the tourism industry due to COVID -19 is highly characterized by travel restrictions and lockdowns. As countries navigate through the COVID-19 pandemic era, it is crucial to understand how domestic tourism is conceptualized in the light of the ĝ€new normal'. This paper provides insights on re-defining domestic tourism in the ĝ€new normal'. Using a literature review approach and content analysis, the findings reveal that domestic tourism needs to be re-defined to incorporate the context of virtual world technologies as the ĝ€new normal'. The re-defined domestic tourism in the ĝ€new normal' can assist Destination Marketing Organizations (DMOs) to envision a hybrid of physical and virtual visits to attractions in order to enhance the experiences of residents when engaging in domestic tourism activities within destinations. © 2021 ACM.

ABSTRACT

The online sales of tourism activities are increasing despite once-sluggish growth, especially in contrast to other tourism segments, i.e. transportation and accommodation, which already had a more significant share of online sales. This article aims to provide a narrative as to why tourism activities took longer than other travel segments to be sold online and why the trend of being sold increasingly online will continue into the future. The article concludes that two key factors, the nature of tourism activities (i.e. subjective and customizable) and technological advancements, have contributed to this trend. These technological advancements include tourism activity booking software, innovation in payments technology, application programming interfaces (APIs), big data, and dynamic packaging. Additionally, the COVID-19 pandemic further accelerated this trend. © 2021 Institute for Tourism. All rights reserved.
